  1. KEYS AND BUTTONS
  2.  
  3. This lists the use of keyboard keys and mouse buttons in Istar.
  4.  
  5.  
  6. TO DO WITH SPACING, ZOOMING, ETC.
  7.  
  8. (I might have got f3/4 or f9/10 wrong way round.)
  9.  
  10. #  Zoom in, so boxes are smaller, so you can see more of the net:  F10 key 
  11. when mouse is placed where you want centre of KB diagram to be.
  12.  
  13. #  Zoom out, so boxes are larger, so you see less of the net:  F9 key when 
  14. mouse is placed where you want centre of KB diagram to be.
  15.  
  16. #  Move KB as a whole, up, down, left, right:  Hit the cursor arrow keys 
  17. situated between main and numeric keyboard.  The amount of movement is 1 
  18. inch by default, as set in the Prefs panel.
  19.  
  20. #  Create space in the net, a vertical column:  F3 key, and all boxes to 
  21. right of where mouse happens to be will be moved to right by 1 inch.  All 
  22. arrows are modified to follow the boxes as necessary.

  24. #  Create space in the net, a horizontal row:  F4 key, and all boxes below 
  25. where mouse happens to be will be moved down by 1 inch.  All arrows are 
  26. modified to follow the boxes as necessary.

  29. TO DO WITH HIDING AND SHOWING PARTS OF NET
  30.  
  31. Most of these use the numeric keypad by default.
  32.  
  33. #  To show all parts of net (after hiding some):  'Enter' key at bottom 
  34. right of numeric keypad.  (NOT the return key).
  35.  
  36. #  To show the attributes connected to the one over which mouse is resting: 
  37. '+' (Plus) key on numeric keypad.
  38.  
  39. #  To show the attributes that are antecedent to the one over which the 
  40. mouse is resting:  '*' key on numeric keypad.  With this you can find which 
  41. input information is relevant to a given attribute.

  43. #  To hide all, prior to showing topics:  '0' key on numeric keypad.
  44.  
  45. #  To show the attributes or items linked to a given topic:  (First hide 
  46. all with '0' key) then hit the topic number 1..9 on numeric keypad.  These 
  47. are accumulative, in that if you hit 0 (to clear) and then 1 and 4 you will 
  48. see those things that are linked to either topic 1 or topic 4 or both.

  51. TO DO THINGS TO OR WITH ITEMS OR RELATIONSHIPS

  53. #  To get information click right mouse button: over box to bring up either 
  54. attribute or item details panel, over arrow to bring up relationship 
  55. details panel.

  57. #  To perform action click left mouse button: over box to bring up 
  58. attribute action panel.  At present, items and relationships have no 
  59. action.
  60.  
  61. #  To select item/attribute type to be similar to a given one:  hit 'T' key 
  62. (for 'type') when mouse is over the item or attribute box of type wanted.
  63.  
  64. #  To set link weight to negative or positive while drawing:  hit '-' or 
  65. '+' key on main keyboard (NOT numeric keypad) while you are in the process 
  66. of drawing.

  68. #  To bend a link while drawing it:  hit space bar when end of line being 
  69. drawn is at position for bend.
  70.  
  71. #  To delete a vertex (bend point) of a line:  hit 'Del' key (next to 
  72. 'help') while you are moving the vertex.

  77. F3:  Create vertical space
  78. F4:  Create horizontal space

  81. - (main kbd):  negative link
  82. + (main kbd):  positive link
  83. + (num kpd):  Show all connected one step
  84. Del: Delete vertex of arrow
  85. * (num kpd):  Show the antecedent net of an attribute
  86. 0 (num kpd):  Hide all
  87. 1..9 (num kpd):  Show those linked to topics 1..9
  88. Enter (num kpd):  Show all
  89. T (main kbd):  Select same Type as indicated box
  90. Space bar:  Insert bend in link being drawn
  91. Cursor arrow keys:  Move whole diagram
